Steamie Privacy Policy

Steamie is made by Boolean and Bean Pty Ltd, a company based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia ("we", "us", "our"). This policy explains what the Steamie app and the steamie.app website do with information about you. The short version: what Steamie measures stays on your Mac.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
What stays on your Mac
To do its job, Steamie reads and records:
- power, temperature, fan speed and battery readings;
- which apps and processes are running, how much memory and power they use, and which network ports they listen on;
- the sizes and dates of developer cache folders, such as Xcode DerivedData; and
- your settings and rules.
All of this is stored only on your Mac, in ~/Library/Application Support/Steamie and Steamie's settings. It is never sent to us or anyone else. Deleting that folder deletes it.
What Steamie sends, and to whom
Steamie connects to the internet for two things only.
Licence checks (Polar). When you activate Steamie Pro, and about once a week afterwards, Steamie sends Polar Software Inc. ("Polar"), our payment provider and merchant of record:
- your licence key;
- an activation ID; and
- your Mac's name (for example, "Sam's MacBook Pro"), so you can tell your activations apart.
When you buy Steamie Pro, Polar collects your name, email address and payment details at checkout. We receive your name, email address and order details from Polar so we can support your purchase. We never see your card details. Polar's own privacy policy applies to the checkout.
Update checks. Steamie checks steamie.app for new versions. This request includes your app version and the standard technical details any web request carries, such as your IP address. We don't use it to identify you.
Steamie has no analytics, no crash reporting service, no advertising and no tracking.
The website
steamie.app has no cookies, no analytics and no tracking scripts. Our web host may keep short-lived server logs, including IP addresses, to keep the site running and secure.
If you email us, we use your email address and what you send only to reply and help you. We keep it only as long as we need to.
Sharing
We don't sell or rent personal information. We share it only with Polar, as described above, with service providers who help us run the website and email, or where the law requires it.
Polar and our service providers may store information outside Australia, including in the United States and the European Union.
Your choices and rights
- You can use Steamie without a licence, in which case it sends nothing about you to Polar.
- You can deactivate Steamie Pro on a Mac in Settings, which removes that activation.
- You can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, by emailing us.
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first. If we don't resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Children
Steamie isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or on our website first.
